President’s Message:
Try Something New

By Craig E. Ward

Would you like to do something different? Something that stretches your abilities and rewards you with a deep sense of satisfaction? As members of OASIS, you have more options than you realize.

There are a lot of things that need to be done in order for OASIS to function. People are needed for organizational things like meeting agendas and bookkeeping; public activities such as finding speakers and venues; and communication activities such as the newsletter or web site. There are more.

Of course, these are all volunteer activities, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Volunteering can give you an opportunity to try out something new without worrying about interfering with your current day job. If you’re not a journalist, you can try out the job by writing for the newsletter. If you want an idea of what is required to manage a web site, you could offer to help with the OASIS site. If you think you might like working with children, perhaps you could coordinate the next art contest or become a mentor to some students and their science fair projects. If you would just like to make more contact with like-minded people, you could come to one of the business meetings and help put together the next mailing.

One of the new features we added last year was a “wish book” of projects. Eventually, the wish book will go online, but for now you can check it out at the monthly meetings. If you find something that interests you, we will do all we can to help you make a success of it.

If you want to help and stretch your wings a bit, feel free to contact me . I will do my best to get you going. Not only will you be helping out the chapter, but you will also be expanding your personal horizons and having some fun doing it.
