Subject: [oasis-members] Inspiring a Generation

A common theme among space advocates these days is, "How can we generate
enthusiasm for space?"  Along those lines, I am writing a novel to influence
people (primarily the 18-30 crowd) to be more passionate about space
exploration.  I'd like to inspire them to *believe*, to believe that space
exploration is worth it, especially if they had the dream at one point but
later dropped that passion, for whatever reason.
My question for OASIS is: what inspired you?  Why do you care about space
today?
Also, what sort of books have you read and thought, "Wow! Now I remember why
I was interested in space!"?
