This is not an OASIS event. ============================= Western Museum of Flight Celebrity Lecture Series March 21 Saturday - 11 am The EB-66 over North Vietnam with Colonel John Fer, USAF (Ret) >From the early days of airborne reconnaissance, to the growth of air-to-air combat, to the era of strategic bombing, the role of aviation in armed conflict has grown in power and sophistication. By the time of the Vietnam War, a new and vital role had emerged. The technology of airborne electronic warfare enabled US forces to detect and suppress enemy efforts to shoot down American aircraft over hostile territory. One of the most successful of this new breed of aircraft was the EB-66, flying many hazardous missions over North Vietnam. Highly effective, this aircraft, and the stalwart efforts of its crews, helped to save countless American aviators from being shot down, enabling them to continue the fight, another day. But this critical work carried its own price. The EB-66 air crews were, themselves exposed to the same risks they were there to mitigate. We are honored to have one of the pilots of the EB-66, Colonel John Fer, who paid a terrible price for his heroism. Shot down over North Vietnam, Col. Fer spent nearly seven years in a Prisoner of War camp. His many decorations include the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Purple Heart, all of which he earned while performing dangerous and arduous military duties. Join us, while Colonel Fer shares his experiences as a combat pilot and POW. Western Museum of Flight 3315 Airport Dr. Torrance, CA 90505 (310) 326-9544 The lecture is free to Museum Members.
